The Hearts of Our Community
Every so often we come across times in our lives which inspire memories of the past. Yesterday was one of those moments for me.
I'd been out picking up a few groceries for home and to be honest I was feeling a tad bit hopeless because I didn't have a job. When I'm feeling this way, I always think of one of one of my favorite quotes by Dr. Wayne Dyer who says, "Change the way you look at things, and the things you look at will change! "
With this in mind, I was on my way down the aisle when I was met with an obstacle in the way of my progress: another grocery cart. The operator of the cart, who was also shopping, quickly moved out of the way and looked at me with the most adorable smile on her face. I quickly slipped by her and went on my way.
Something about that pleasant look on the face of this stranger made me turn around and seek her out. I told her how much her smile had touched me and that I just had to find her and say thank you for being so pleasant. I gave her a heartpass and told her it was a thank you for being so kind. She looked at me with that same sincere smile and reached up to give me a hug.
Now something you need to know about me is I'm not tall. This makes me laugh because I'm well under the 5 foot mark on my wall. This stranger was even shorter which normally doesn't happen unless I'm substituting in a Grade Primary class. It turns out she was shopping with her sister who was also close to the same height. Her sister had that same irresistible glint of pleasantly on her face and I found myself drawn to them both. We chatted for a while and suddenly it dawned on me I'd seen both of them before. They ran a little restaurant on front street called the London Fruit that I remember going into when I was much younger. The picture above shows the main street of New Glasgow when their restaurant was on the go.
I gave a heartpass to the other sister, hugged them both and was on my way feeling like I'd been touched by two angels.
Here is what I have come to know. When you keep your mind and heart open, incredible moments will present themselves to you. You will meet people who will touch your heart in the most profound ways, just as these two sisters touched mine.
